Presented by David Stubbings
About the presentation
Public transport in Cambridge is currently a hot topic with various solutions being proposed to move people around the city efficiently.
Cambridge Industrial Archaeology Group’s June 2025 presentation revisits the late 19th century when an enterprising company came up with a horse-drawn solution to public transport.
Cambridge Street Tramways Company ran trams, pulled by horses, from Cambridge railway station into the centre of town. There are still memories of the tramway to be seen including the Tram Depot pub on East Road and a display of a section of the track and wooden blocks at Cambridge Museum of Technology.
About the presenter
Our conductor for the evening is David Stubbings, the Chair of Chesterton Local History Group, and a keen local historian who will share his research on this aspect of Cambridge’s industrial history.
