Celebrating the 30th anniversary of steeplejack Fred Dibnah’s chimney ascent

In 1992, Fred Dibnah (1938–2004), a well-know steeplejack and television personality, was contracted by Cambridge Museum of Technology to repair its chimney with pointing work.

Fred arrived at the museum on 11 May 1992 to start the work and setup his famous Dibnah flying scaffold.

The work was completed by June 1992.

Fred's presence at the museum gained a lot of attention and helped generate enough money to cover the remaining cost of the chimney repairs.
